Anyone in the Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale Metro Area will soon be able to hail a fully autonomous robo-taxi using the Waymo One app like they would hail a Lyft or Uber. Waymo, Google's self-driving car project, is currently offering the driverless service within a 50-mile radius of Chandler, a suburb of Phoenix, with plans in the works for expansion to a larger geographic area later in 2020.

A fully autonomous commercial robo-taxi service puts Waymo ahead of its rivals who are still testing driverless services in cities like San Francisco and Pittsburgh.
